Cause
For many years, the District of Columbia has been host to many great running events with good causes - 5-Ks, 10-Ks, 10-milers, half and full marathons. It is time for a running event dedicated to the campaign for DC statehood. For more than 640,000 DC residents, statehood would mean victory over a centuries-long injustice. It would mean self-governance and representation in the United States Congress, both enjoyed by citizens of all the fifty states, but not by those who live in DC.
Run For DC Statehood welcomes everybody who wants to participate by running, volunteering, sponsoring, spreading the word, or supporting the idea in any other way. Proceeds from the event will be used to support the DC statehood movement and address acute problems faced by DC, such as poverty, homelessness, education, pollution, HIV/AIDS.

Course
At the very first Run For DC Statehood, we are planning on offering runners to choose between 5K and 10K distances.
The proposed course:

- Start at Anacostia Metro Station (Start)
- Continue onto Howard Road SE towards Anacostia Freeway
- Turn right onto Howard Road SE towards South Capitol Street SE
- Keep left to merge with South Capitol Street SE
- Continue onto South Capitol Street SE
- Turn right onto Potomac Avenue SE
- Turn left onto First Street SE
- Turn right onto M Street SE
- Turn left onto 3rd Street SE
- Continue onto 3rd Street NE
- Turn left onto E Street NE (5K split & finish at E Street and 2nd Street NE) — for the 10K course, continue onto 3rd Street NE
- Turn left onto K Street NE
- Continue onto K Street NW
- Turn right onto 7th Street NW
- Turn left onto M Street NW
- Turn right onto Thomas Circle
- Take the first exit towards 14th Street NW
- Continue onto 14th Street NW
- Turn left onto P Street NW
- P Street and 18th Street NW (10K finish)

Run For DC Statehood will be taking place on the Sunday of the week of the Flag Day. The first Run For DC Statehood will take place on June 17, 2018.
